More of my world views, insights, thoughts, observations

  • Today’s European politicians . . . are ‘test-tube politicians,’ who haven’t emerged from a process of significant political battles with worthy political opponents, but have instead risen to power through the manipulations conjured by the strong players of the financial capital system, with the objective to control the political elite of the European continent. They are more employees than they are politicians. Moreover, their programme is not for public disclosure. Should they discuss in public what they really want to achieve, or rather what the bankers who appointed them want to achieve, even the stones will cry out in Europe in protest against them! Today’s European politicians are the product of a very particular historical period which started with the collapse of the European left and its integration into the established status quo and especially with the collapse of the USSR. They are also the product of decades of successful ‘filtering’ of European politics and of a very successful strategy of ‘entryism’ into the political elites, using in particular generalized corruption and the possibility to blackmail anybody, by the financial capital and by the most extremist representatives of the deep American state, organised around a ‘neoliberal’ and ‘neoconservative’ core respectively. ~Dimitrios Konstantakopoulos
  • I didn’t have to wait to read the book, which is called Destiny and Power: The American Odyssey of George Herbert Walker Bush, (and comes out Tuesday) to get the answer. Because what counts for public opinion is typically not what is in a book, since most will not buy it. And even those who do will often not read it. Or they won’t read it carefully. No, what shapes opinion most often is what the public is told is in it.
  • The First World War was a time of horrendous and futile misery and slaughter, as epitomising political and military leaders’ incompetence and callous disregard for human life. That popular judgement, which has helped turn common opinion against war in general, was correct, and we must not let the war mongers dismiss this instance of the wisdom of ordinary people.
  • We are experiencing a reality based on a thin veneer of lies and illusions. A world where greed is our God and wisdom is sin, where division is key and unity is fantasy, where the ego-driven cleverness of the mind is praised, rather than the intelligence of the heart. ~Bill Hicks
  • That’s because sheep don’t know any better and tend to shuffle along silently, even to slaughter.
  • The more unequal a society becomes, the more its politicians enact rules that lead to greater inequality. This is the core — but understated — insight of Piketty’s Capital: that owning things makes you richer than doing things because owners buy policies that make them richer. This is true across the world, policy outcomes exclusively favour the interests of the top decile of wealth ownership.
  • So-called Enemy Number One was used to stoke fear to justify the unjustifiable – naked aggression against one country after another, continuing today, nearly 14 years after bin Laden’s real death. Obama did not kill him!!
  • Monsanto is the most dangerous corporation on the planet. They have created some of the most dangerous products that include Agent Orange, dioxin, recombinant bovine growth hormone (rBGH), herbicide Roundup and genetically modified seeds.
  • There are good scientists and there are mad scientists. The good ones have invented the safety pin, central heating, and Italian coffee machines. The mad ones have invented smog, Roundup, and the military-industrial complex. The good ones tread with great care where God’s magnificent creation is concerned; the mad ones would cut down the Tree of Life to find out how many rings it has. The mad ones are also those who, at the cost of billions of taxpayers’ dollars, have invented a gigantic machine of unbelievable complexity and superhuman sophistication that produces nothing at all—not even a fart. It is named the Large Hadron Collider.
  • It must be exhausting to be a monarchist, forever finding ways to pretend a family of cold, talentless snobs are better than the rest of us. They have to make gold out of mud. The system of monarchy — selecting a head of state solely because of the womb they passed through, and surrounding them with sycophants from the moment they emerge — produces warped and dim people, and demands we scrape before them. What’s a poor monarchist to do? They can only lavish a thick cream of adjectives — ‘dignity,’ ‘charm,’ ‘majesty’ — over the Windsor family in the hope that some of us are fooled. ~Johann Hari (26 May 2015) Can We Finally Tell the Truth About Britain’s Vile ‘Queen Mother’?, The Huffington Post
