2 Great Britain countries I’ve traversed by foot

07/03/2015

The saying goes, “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” Really, that’s not true. Every major journey begins with a plan: where you’re going, where you’re stopping along the way, and how you’re getting there. ~Randal S. Olson

England: coast-to-coast trail

Coast_2_coast.svg Alfred Wainwright’s coast-to-coast trail spans some 190 miles from the Irish Sea at St Bees, in Cumbria to the North Yorkshire moors. Hiking the trail took us 14 days, crossing through the Lake District National Park, the green valleys of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, and the pink and purple heather of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park to reach the North Sea at Robin Hood’s Bay. We continued our journey to Whitby to pay homage to Captain James Cook.

Wales: Across Wales Walk

I participated in one of the annual Across Wales Walks. It was tough and once was enough. The route spans 45 miles from the English border at Anchor near Clun in Shropshire, to the Welsh coast at Clarach Bay near Aberystwyth.
