Clamouring for security and safety

SRI Lanka’s new Prime Minister, Ranil Wickremesinghe, claims the Australian government’s silence on alleged human rights abuses was the price it paid to secure co-operation from the former Rajapaksa government on stopping asylum-seeker boats.

This paragraph, from an article by the Australian [1], confirms the elite’s power over the great majority of people. The mainstream news is a tool of political control that undermines people’s perception of the world so they never know what is really happening (if they ever did). It is a strategy that keeps the public confused, by ceaseless shape-shifting that is unstoppable because its indefinable. The public views the world as hopeless, depressing and above all confusing.

With the Australia Prime Minister pounding away on his national security drum warning of imminent threats by terrorists it is no wonder the public clamours for security and safety. This man’s pursuit of power is insatiable. He want more. In a seemingly never ending act of compulsive consumption, he seeks to dominate or destroy all and sundry that stands in the way of his thirst for power.

Madam Speaker, because protecting our people is the first duty of government, it’s right that I should update the House on developing challenges to our national security.

I acknowledge the commitment of all MPs to keeping our people safe and I especially acknowledge the support that the Leader of the Opposition has given to the Government on this subject.

On questions of national security, it’s always best if government and opposition can stand together, shoulder to shoulder.

It lets our enemies know that they will never shake our resolve.

It’s a sign that hope is stronger than fear and that decency can prevail over brute force.

From me and from all ministers in this government, there will be three key messages:

First, the government will do whatever is possible to keep people safe.

Second, our security measures at home and abroad are directed against terrorism, not religion.

And third, Australians should always live normally because terrorists’ goal is to scare us out of being ourselves.

As we all know, there have been major anti-terrorist raids across Sydney and Brisbane.

Our police and security agencies will always strive to stay at least one step ahead of those who would do us harm; and, so far, thank god, they have succeeded.[2]

The actions of politicians are the self-serving machinations of the power-elite. Everything the public is told is designed to confuse and contradict: an odd non-linear world that plays into the hands of those in power.
