Wake up to the propaganda

15/08/2014

Edward Louis Bernays (22 November 1891 – 9 March 1995) invented a number of the public relations and advertising techniques that revolutionized marketing in the early decades of the 20th century. He felt that it was not reason but emotion and instinct that moved the common man, and throughout his life held onto the elitist view that those who understood this could and should control the masses. As he said in the first paragraph of his book Propaganda,

Those who manipulate [the habits and opinions of the masses]…constitute an invisible government which is the true ruling power of our country.

Thus, the goal of advertising and public relations is to persuade (manipulate) people to behave in a particular way or—if you want to put it in the way Bernays would have—to control them.

The purpose of the news is to sell something, be it a product, an idea, a candidate, a public image, a war, or whatever. The mainstream media’s focus is to shape people’s perceptions of an issue, and lead them into consent for an underlying and hidden agenda. Further, journalism today is a joke but a serious joke. So-called journalists are essentially stenographers for the elite who don’t even bother to look into a story, instead choosing to ‘toe the elite line’ to ensure their careers and livelihoods.

Capitalism requires the largest propaganda system the world has ever known to convince us it is the only system possible. (The same argument applies to ‘representative democracy.’) It turns people into consumers by advertising, credit, obsolescence, marketing, entertainment and so-called news. Millions around the world are employed to use their creativity to twist our feelings of love, desire, human solidarity and fairness into tools of manipulation, so that ever more profits can flow into the hands of a tiny minority.

Don’t buy into their propaganda, don’t try to live the lifestyle they tell you that you need to be happy. You decide what makes you happy. There is no longer any doubt of the elite (various families and billionaires) who control things. Once you wake up to who is moving these chess pieces around and why, it’s impossible to go back to sleep.
