My retreat at Santi Forest Monastery

16/01/2014

My wonderful refuge away from the toxicity of Christmas was a 2-week retreat at Santi Forest Monastery, a misty stunning mountain retreat in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales, Australia. How do you know when you really belong somewhere? When you’re truly welcome, beyond the politeness of good people? That was my experience. Santi is a place for spiritual practice, meditation, reflection, and just being, and home to four Buddhist nuns daring to live the monastic life dependent entirely on community support and generosity. My heart swelled with joy in the presence of these remarkable nuns and their guests. People pure of heart, kindness, compassion and generosity. (Of course, there was sadness when leaving to return home.) I’m grateful!
