Pilgrim numbers

26/09/2012

More pilgrims exist today than most people would ever think possible. They travel largely unknown routes on endless footpaths and pavements to Santiago de Compostela, Rome, Jerusalem, and elsewhere. For example, pilgrim numbers soared to over ¼ million to Santiago de Compostela in 2010 and settled back in 2011 to 179,919. When these pilgrims finally arrive they are not the same, they are changed, they’ve become someone else. It’s the path and search that forges and changes them.
