Prime minister Kevin Rudd’s apologies
Prime minister Kevin Rudd on 12 February 2008 apologised for the mistreatment of Australia’s indigenous people, and in particular those who were ‘stolen generations’; and on 16 November 2009 for the abuse and pain suffered by hundreds of United Kingdom children who were sent to Australia under the Child Migrants Programme.
I appreciate prime minister Rudd’s apologies and view them refreshing and sensitive, and him as courageous. However this is empty rhetoric unless action is taken to hold those people to account who were directly and indirectly responsible for causing these harms. I’m not aware of a concerted effort to seek out those nasty awful people and bring them to trial.
I would like to know if any action is being taken by the competent authorities.
